Feature: A Dangerous Walk to School

photo-4-e1362054843771-300x224 In Philadelphia, the school district made the decision to shut down dozens of city schools, due to a $300 million budget deficit. Many parents said closing neighborhood schools would force their kids to walk through dangerous neighborhoods to get to class. Antoine Little challenged the school reform commission to walk with him and see why he is concerned. At first they wouldn’t take the stroll with Little,  but Mike did, turning it into a three minute feature for IQ 106.9’s morning news program.

The parent featured in this piece says hours after the story aired, the school superintendent agreed to walk with him. Then, when it came time to vote, the board voted unanimously not to close his school.
